Blooms Bookstore
Branding
A branding concept for a botanical bookstore based in Albany, New York. Blooms Bookstore is a bookstore that merges the worlds of literature and nature. Blooms Bookstore provides a range of all genres with their most distinctive feature being a conjoined plant shop, where they sell a range of succulents and house plants. This project involved creating a brand story, responsive logo, color palette, brand patterns, and mockups.
Process
When starting this project, I created a mind map to organize the features of the bookstore and brainstorm ideas for the brand identity. After outlining the key features, I started sketching ideas for the logomark. I was inspired by the nature side of the bookstore and wanted to combine nature with the theme of books and storytelling. After making several sketches, I chose to build off of the idea of designing the logomark as a tree bookshelf. Tree bookshelves are built to resemble the structure of a tree. The final logomark depicts a tree bookshelf with a vine connecting it to the wordmark, tying the theme of nature back to the bookstore.
Visual Inspiration
The biggest visual inspiration came from the bookstore's conjoined plant shop. I found my inspiration from nature incorporating natural colors, such as greens and browns, while wanting to add accents of purple and orange for vibrancy. I was inspired by organic type and logomarks. Additionally, I used vintage plant illustrations found in old book publications in this project, to add a touch of nostalgia to the brand.
